From Gulf Coast Shell to Handcrafted Treasure
Along the Louisiana Gulf Coast, oyster shells are more than something left behind after a meal. They are part of our landscape, our food, our gatherings, and the unmistakable character of life in the South.
At Beezus & Roux, we give these naturally beautiful shells a new purpose by transforming them, one by one, into handcrafted jewelry and trinket dishes.
Each piece begins with a raw oyster shell, complete with the curves, ridges, textures, and imperfections created by nature. No two shells are exactly alike—which means no two finished dishes will ever be exactly alike either.
A Four-Day Transformation
Creating each oyster shell dish is a process that takes several days of cleaning, drying, preparing, decorating, and sealing.
The shells first go through an extensive cleaning process, alternating between soaking and long periods of drying in the Louisiana sun. Once thoroughly prepared and completely dry, each shell is carefully cleaned by hand to remove any remaining dust or loose material.
Then the transformation begins.
The interior is painted white, creating a fresh canvas that allows the chosen artwork to come alive. Decorative paper is carefully decoupaged onto the natural curves of the shell, requiring patience to work with a surface that was never meant to be perfectly flat or uniform.
Once the design has dried, layers of shimmering iridescent finish are applied to create depth and a subtle luminous effect.
Finally, the naturally uneven edge of the oyster shell is hand-painted with a rich metallic finish, highlighting every ridge and curve rather than hiding them. A final protective layer completes the piece and helps preserve the artwork beneath.

Naturally Imperfect. Completely One of a Kind.
Part of the beauty of working with oyster shells is allowing the shell itself to remain part of the design.
Its shape may curve slightly differently. The edge may rise higher in one area. Natural markings, ridges, and variations remain visible beneath the artistry.
Those differences aren't flaws—they're what make each piece uniquely its own.
Whether used beside your bed for rings and bracelets, on a vanity for treasured jewelry, or simply displayed as a little piece of Louisiana-inspired art, every Beezus & Roux oyster shell dish carries a bit of Gulf Coast character with it.
Four days of preparation. Layer upon layer of hand-applied detail. One naturally beautiful shell given an entirely new story.
Handcrafted in Louisiana by Beezus & Roux.
